Math Sheets for Grade 1

Mathematics is a scourge for students. Since sitting in elementary school the teachers teach mathematics with techniques that only count. At the beginning of learning mathematics, kids are introduced to numbers. If we as parents realize, the numbers that appear on all counts are only numbers 0-9.How do you make math easy to learn and like to kids?

Here I will give some tips based on my experience teaching my kid. This technique is called horizontal visual, which is usually taught by using an abacus, but I teach it without abacus, the initial stage is only 10 fingers and the logic of numbers. The sum and subtraction always starts from the front number.

Emphasize on kids and always remind them that learning mathematics is easy and fun. Teach kids to do math / numerical calculations with logic, not by counting. Teach numbers 1 – 10 using a finger count, and teach the kid to remember the position of the finger on that number. For example 7 is to open the five fingers of the left hand and 2 (thumb and thumb) of the right hand, etc. This is the beginning of the kid learning to count. Teach kids to count starting from the sum of numbers that produce a value of 5. For example: 1 + 4 = 5, 2 + 3 = 5. Let the kid remember it automatically summarizing it.

Don’t teach: 1 keep it in your heart, open 4 fingers and count it out 1, 2, 3, 4.5. This will make it difficult for the kid when the kid has learned multiplication that requires a quick and accurate sum of summation. Teach kids to calculate the sum that produces number 10. For example, 1 + 9 = 10, 2 + 8 = 10 and so on. Let the kid automatically remember the sum of pairs that produce 10.
